Как написать объявление об аренде?
Если вы landlord / landlady ( the person who owns the accommodation) ищете человека, то ad начинается со слова wanted (требуется), если сдаете, то пишется To let.

Далее, описывая людей, которые бы соответствовали образу идеального постояльца, используют следующие обозначения:

professional / prof. (adj/n)
somebody who has a job.
Rooms available: professionals only.
·  Prof. male required for shared house.
 

Чтение дат на английском

Сегодня на факультативе делали задание на аудирование. Прослушали запись, сидим переводим текст, а в нем дата - 2014 год.  Я по привычке, приобретенной в США читаю им two thosand fourteen. Дети спрашивают: так как правильно? Ведь даты читаются по две цифры. Я им объясняю, что начиная с 2000 года, читается two thousand and... Они мне "что-то вы путаете", диктор произнесла дату как twenty fourteen! Прослушали еще раз - и точно! Вопрос остался открытым.
Дома загуглила его.

Оказалось, что действительно, начиная с 2000 года читается two thousand and... Но с 2010 года повелось произносить двумя способами: either "twenty ten" or "two thousand (and) ten". С тех пор так и продолжается. Причем по две цифры получается короче, и лентяи используют такой вариант чаще :) К тому же twenty ten звучит бодрее :) Короче говоря, оба варианта правильные!

Core and non-core subjects at UK schools

By law, all children in England and Wales between ages 5 and 16 must receive a full-time education, while in Northern Ireland, children must begin at age 4. For children under age 5, publicly-funded nurseries and pre-schools are available for a limited number of hours each week. After the age of 16, students can attend sixth form colleges or other further education institutions.
